COFICAB Technical Center
In the new center are the Central Services Support located at various production facilities that the group has in several countries, according to João Cardoso, Director General of the Portuguese COFICAB.
The Technology Center installed in the Guard's mission is "to develop new products for application in the automotive industry, which have technical, economic or environmental advantages compared to current use." It is an independent unit of the productive structure of the company, just dedicated to the development and innovation, according to the official. It is housed in an industrial company, shortly after a new product development process, it is shown to car manufacturers in order to obtain the approval of the same. "After obtaining the approval, still part of the mission of the Department of Research, the transfer of know-how to the various Group Production Units," said João Cardoso.
The Technological Center of the Guard, working two dozen senior technicians. There is also an associate Pole to this center, which is being installed in Tunisia "and that will focus exclusively on research in the area of conductive materials." The COFICAB also has, in Germany, a Technical Centre of Support establishing a daily contact with the German manufacturers, both for problem solving, as for the presentation of innovative products designed in the Technological Center of the Guard.
That unit also provided technical support to production units in products that are in series production and that might need training of human resources allocated to the production thereof, or adjustments in production processes.
The Technical Center of COFICAB group has partnerships with institutions such as the University of Minho, Vigo and Munich, the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda, the GAIKER Institute (Bilbao / Spain) and several independent laboratories in Germany, Sweden and France.
Regarding the results, according to the Director General, the COFICAB is regarded by customers as "the most innovative company in the sector." It has established a number of direct partnerships with car manufacturers to develop new technological solutions as 0,13mm² wires for application CAN BUS (interconnection of sensors in a car with the CPU), with the MERCEDES; shielded cables for use in electric / hybrid vehicles with PEUGEOT CITROEN Group; cables with conductors of aluminum and silicon insulated also with MERCEDES and AUDI. - Terras da Beira
